I am a permanent Oaxaca resident and have a full time job, so I can´t participate in all your hikes but hope to join you at some point. Also I can´t commit too far in advance. Great project though. By the way, it´s San Bartolomé Quialana.
Hola, Cicely!
Nice to hear from you! I do hope you will be able to join in the fun on some of our hikes this season. The automatic reservation system is set up to accept reservations thru the Tuesday prior to any given hike. If you are not able to commit by then, please send me an e-mail at ginznoaxaca@aol.com to see if we have space available in the van(s) or bus(es) for that week’s outing. I check for e-mail every morning and evening.
Until I saw your comment, I was not aware I could use accent marks in WordPress. Now I know! So Bartolomé it is! As to the last name, local maps differ as to the spelling. Just as Huayapam and Cuilapam are variously spelled with a final “m” or “n”, Quiliana is often shown with a “p”. All very curious to a gringo like me.
– Larry G. Hike Coordinator
I know that it says bookings are closed for this event, but I just now realized there is a Tuesday deadline. If it’s possible I would like to join, but if not, I’ll make it for the next one! Thanks,
Marilyn
Hola, Marilyn!
The reservation window to sign up for our Friday hikes closes on Tuesday night at midnight in order to give us a chance to make appropriate arrangements for transportation. However, we are usually able to accommodate late-comers. That is the case this week. Please do plan to join us for our trek along the aqueduct at San Agustin Etla! We will look for you at the Lending Library at 9 am on Friday morning. Do remember to pack a sack lunch to enjoy at the hydroelectric plant at the hike’s mid-point.
I would like to reserve 3 spots. Could you please confirm that I am confirmed for three people?
Thanks,
Leigh
Hola!
We have you down for three reserved spots on the hike from Benito Juarez to Cuajimoloyas on Friday, January 4, 2013.
Just Arrived. Can I get on a standy list in case of cancelations? One spot. Thanks.
Hola, Gary!
Welcome to Oaxaca! I hope you have a most enjoyable stay here.
Sorry to be so slow getting back to you.
Sad to say, the hike this coming Friday at San Pablo Etla is fully booked. I have added your name to the stand-by list. However, there are 13 people on the waiting list, so the odds are against our having room for you.
It appears the hike the following week at La Cumbre has also filled up. Who knew we had so many hikers in our midst?
If you will be in Oaxaca for an extended time, I would suggest you look over the schedule of remaining hikes and place your reservation(s) early to secure a spot.
Best wishes!
– Larry Ginzkey, hike coordinator.
please place me on the waiting list for this hike
Hola!
We have you on the stand-by list for the La Cumbre hike on Friday, February 1. You are second on the list, so there is an excellent chance we’ll have space for you, as we usually get a few cancellations a couple of days prior to the outing. We will contact you if and when that happens.
We thank you Larry, we really hope for cancellations. We three wish to do this very much. Thank you for your help.
Best to you,
Ian
Hola!
I have put the three of you on our stand-by list for the La Cumbre hike on February 1. However, that list is already pretty long. The odds are against our having enough cancellations to have space for you. I will e-mail you if and when we can fit you in.
As to making reservations using the web site, are you sure you are using the correct USERNAME and PASSWORD assigned to you when you first logged in and were given an account? The automated system allows you to change your password to one of your own choosing, but of course you have to be able to login to do that! The USERNAME is usually your e-mail address, with some extra letters or numbers added to help the system identify you.
If all else fails, create a new account using Jo-ann’s e-mail address (if she has one). That way the system will treat you as a new entity. Good luck!
Hello, I would like to be put on the waiting list for this hike. Thank you!
Hola, Liberty!
I have added your name to the stand-by list for our hike at La Cumbre this coming Friday, February 1. You are number 7 on the list. I will send you an e-mail if and when we have space available for you. I must caution you, though, that it is rather unlikely we will have seven cancellations for this outing. Good luck!
Larry,
This is the hike that my hiking club in MI would like to take. In total there will be 9 of us. How shall I sign up for 5 more spaces? I will try by the usual process and see what happens.
Hola, Sondra!
I have changed your booking for the Cuatro Venados hike on March 1 from 4 to 9 people. Thanks!
Please add a second person (Carol)
Hola, Dave!
I have changed your booking for the Huayapam easy hike from one person to two. Carol is welcome to join us!
Hola Larry:
Re: Huyapam easy hike: appears to be fully booked on the website. could you put us on standby?
Also: thanks for your reply earlier today. We can’t make the Feb 1 hike, but would appreciate being on standby for Feb 8.
Thanks,
Joe and Jessica
Hola again!
Since the easy hike at Huayapam seems to be drawing greater interest than the difficult hike at the same place on the same day, I have increased the capacity for the easier outing and reduced the number of spaces available for the more strenuous trek. Please try again to make reservations for yourselves on the easier outing. It should be possible now. Thanks!
Hola. Pls add me to the wait list for this interesting hike. Gracias.
Hola, Caleb!
I have put your name on the stand-by list for the Zaachile to Cuilapam hike on February 8. You are number four on the list, so there is a very good chance we will have room for you to join us. I will send you an e-mail if and when that happens. Good luck!
Would love to be on the waiting list for this hike, please.
I have put your name on the stand-by list for the Zaachila to Cuilapam hike on February 8. You are third on the list, so there is a very good chance we’ll have space for you. I do not have you listed on our mailing list, so do not know who you are. Would you please send me an e-mail at ginznoaxaca@aol.com and let me have your name. Thanks!
Just signed up for a the “difficult” hike on Fri/15Feb. I live in Los Angeles and will travel to Oaxaca starting 14Feb. Please let me know if I’m doing something wrong … !
you are approved and on the hike — you have the option to switch to “easy” if you want
on the day of the hike. bien viaje 🙂
Christine (larry’s admin helper)
We enjoyed today’s hike to la cumbre and would like to be put on the waiting listvforcthe Zachiila hike. Thanks so much for all your great leadership and organization! Joan and Bob Anyon
Hola!
I have put the both of you on the standby list for the Zaachila hike this next Friday. I will notify you if and when we have enough people cancel to move you up to the active roster. Good luck!
I would like to be on your standby list as well as my wife, Mary Kelly. Hope we ca make it. Thanks.
Joe
Hola!
I have put the both of you on the standby list for Friday’s hike to Zaachila, and will notify you if and when we have enough people cancel to move you up to the active roster.
Thanks Larry. You can take Mary off as she has decided to do other things that day. I am still on for the trip. Hope I can make the active roster.
Hi Larry
Please put Jim and myself on the waiting list for the Zaachila hike. We will stay tuned.
Thanks,
Ellie
Ellie, you and Jim reserved two spots on the Zaachila hike on January 24. You are on the main list, not the stand-by list. See you Friday!
Larry:
I plan to show up at 9am or a little before at the lending library this Friday even if I do not get an official bump up to a reserved spot. Just in case there’s an empty seat. If not, I’ll just get a collectivo and head to the mountains for some hiking.
Look forward to meeting you.
Joe from Beaverton, Oregon
Just checking here — I might have signed up for two people for the hike of the 22nd rather than what I intended, which is for my daughter and me, on the 29th. If you have Scott Walker signed up for two people for the 22nd, please cancel ONE of the people reserved for that day. Thanks!
Hi Larry – I’d like to go on the wait list for the easy hike. One person. Thanks!
You are on the stand-by list, but number 12, unfortunately. So no guarantees about getting a spot on the bus . . . .
Larry,
I have figured out how to sign up for a hike but do not see a sign-up for the Atzompa walk. Is it possible to join in?
Trish and John Dewit
Hola, Trish!
Glad you figured out how to use the reservation system built into our web site. As you have discovered, the only hike for February that has not already sold out is the city walk on the 22nd from the Library to San Felipe del Agua, and you have reservations for that. The Atzompa hike took place a couple of weeks ago. I hope you enjoy your stay in Oaxaca!
Larry: decided not to come. Maybe next year. Have a good trip.
Joe
Please add me to the waiting list for this hike. Thanks so much!
Larry, I would like to join your hike this Friday, February 15th.
Please reply with confirmation, details, meeting time & place et cetera. This is my last week in Oaxaca.
Stan
Hola, Stan!
I have put your name on the list for the hike this coming Friday in Huayapam. You will need to decide whether you are interested in the easy hike or the more difficult one. We will meet, as usual, at the Lending Library at 9 am.
my schedule has changed and i’m trying to change my reservation for 3/1 and 3/8 from 2 people to 1. can’t see how to do this. could you help?
many thanks,
fiona strathern
Hola, Fiona!
Thanks for your note. I have changed your reservations for the hikes on March 1 & 8 to just one person each day.
If there is a waiting list, please put me on it. Thanks.
Hola, Bryan!
You are number four on the standby list for the Cuatro Venados hike. Since we always have cancellations, I am quite confident we will have space for you on the bus. I will notify you by e-mail when a slot becomes available.
Please sign us up for the waiting list too, Larry.
Thanks,
Dave and Linda
Hola, Dave & Linda!
I have added your names to the standby list for the Cuatro Venados hike. You are currently 2 & 3 on the list, which means you have an excellent chance of coming along, as we always have a number of cancellations. I will notify you when a couple of slots open up. Hope to see you at the Library at 9 am on Friday!
Larry, I will be giving up my spot on this hike for someone on the waiting list! Thank you for all that you do for us.
Hi Larry,
Sorry to say I need to cancel my booking for the Santa Ana del Valle hike, but the system’s not letting me do it…perhaps because it’s tomorrow?
I expect to join you for next week’s hike.
Thanks, Peter
Hola Larry – have signed up for two this coming Friday March 15 – there will only be one of us now. Thanks! Sandra Thomson
Suzi Leonard here…I have signed up for 3 hikers on March 29, an would like to make it 4. (The other three are LPP volunteers in Oaxaca for the week.)
Please confirm 4…sorry I could only see how to cancel the reservation, not o change it.
Thanks!
Hi, Suzi!
I have changed your reservation to 4 people for the hike on March 29 from San Bartolome to San Marcos.
When/if you list this hike next year, you might want to make it clearer that a sack lunch is necessary — the wording, as is, implies that a lunch will be prepared, or ready for purchase, at a hacienda.
