Today’s outing is one of many similar treks through the rolling hill country of the Etla Valley northwest of Monte Alban. The point of this excursion is to get away from the hustle and bustle of the state capital and experience the serene beauty of the farmland that lies just beyond the reach of the city. The hike runs 5.7 miles on country roads and the uphill section may be a bit challenging for some. We need to climb 682 feet up and over a ridge of hills, then descend 731 feet into San Felipe in the next valley to the south. We will stop to eat a sack lunch at the high point on the trail.
Time frame: 8:30 depart Llano Park / 9:30 arrive Santo Tomas & start hike / 12:00 lunch stop on the trail / 1:30 arrive San Felipe / 1:45 leave San Felipe / 2:30 return to Oaxaca
